No Longer a Fit

There are times when nothing is wrong.

No conflict.
No failure.
Nothing to point to and say, this is why.

And still, something has changed.

A child grows,
and the shoes that once fit
begin to press in all the wrong places.

The shoes are not the problem.
The child is not the problem.

They no longer match.

It is easy to look for a reason.
To explain the shift.
To justify leaving something behind.

But growth does not always announce itself
with a clear ending.

Sometimes it is only this:

what once fit, no longer does.

Nothing has to break
to be outgrown.
